Opening up with dialogue?

I think it works as long as you give the reader a little info on what has been going on before they entered the scene. I love starting stories with dialogue. It has to be done right tho. Let the dialogue have a meaning, don't just put it there to have your characters talk, the dialogue has to be believable. Would you really see someone having this conversation in that situation.
