Currency exchange (for dummies) with China?

I am going to china in a month or so. I can't for the life of me understand the currency exchange rate and whether or not the US dollar is high or good or low or bad or whatever compared to the Chinese yuan. Basically I want to know when I go over there whether I will be gaining money or losing money. I know right now that $1 get me 6 yuan or whatever but is that good or bad? And how much is everything over there? Guys I'm just retarded when it comes to this stuff and any and as much help would be appreciated. Including websites, forms, etc.. Whatever... Just help me please...
