When I monogram dresses, I end up sewing the back and front together. HELP!?

I bought a used Babylock machine. With a babylock, I use special hoops that are square and they lock into an arm.. How am I supposed to monogram dresses? I can't do a doughnut formation because it covers up half of the linking... Please help... How do I monogram shirts and onesies? Thanks so much!
