Do you ever hear about people taking their dog out in the back and shooting it with a shotgun?

Seems a bit cruel to me. I mean, it's understandable, since the dog was aggressive. But what ever happened to humanely euthanizing them? Doesn't the owner taking them out back and shooting them say something to you about the owner, not the dog, or the breed? I mean, if they're willing to do that with their dog, chances are they weren't training it right. :/
